I don't know how to put it, so I rather just say it, I don't like the current one. Since we started using it we have problems, like when it's showing dozens of instances when you hover over multiple names quickly, for example.
And I also don't know if the current one is bloat or just pure css. In any case, I've collected a couple of examples from codepen, only pure css ones, so no bullshit js or anything else, easy to implement, configure and style.
Hope you find something to like, but even if not in these three, I guess there are tons of possibilities.
Ie. one of these is capable of changing text dynamically when clicking a button, imagine like when you hover food it displays the amount you have for example, but when you click the food it consumes it, and the tooltip could change it's text, showing +1 or +2 or whatever, and the updated amount you have.
Just a small example, what I mean is that a good tooltip could even be used for giving some feedback during interaction, or who knows what else.
